After the Salt Mine, we discovered we'd have to wait an hour for the next bus. Google Maps gave a walking route down to the bus station. This is part of the trail.

We passed by many small shrines on our wander back down to the station.

We are going to hike up to the Castle of St Francis.
There is a little history on this sign.

This is the start of the hike to the Franziski Chateau or in English, Castle of St. Francis.

This doesn't look steep in this photo but we already climbed a bunch of steep stairs. Time for a breather!

Forgot water!!! We were assured that all the water coming out of the pipes was safe… decided we could wait to get a drink.

We walked by this woodpile on the way uphill. Not sure how it all got here or where it's going. The trail (road?) wasn't very wide and it was quite steep!

We hiked down along this medieval fortress wall. It's over a mile long. The towers were spaced within shouting distance of each other to send warning of invaders.

These lookouts between the towers are spaced at angles and are about 20 ft apart. Can't get our heads around how old these are! How many people did it take and where did the materials come from??
