The Sound of Music
We love the Sound of Music and bicycling so how could we pass up a Fraulein Maria bike tour! We rode by numerous places where the filming took place and learned producers used artistic license to change the facts to make a more interesting story. Not all the filming was done in Salzburg, some scenes were in nearby towns and others on Hollywood sets. We watched the movie just before we flew to Munich and will enjoy it again!!!!

Our email address is gusrox30@gmail.com . Feel free to drop a note and say hello anytime!

For the 3 1/2 hour tour we were provided with 7 speed cruiser bikes, a great guide, Celeste and Sound of Music songs playing as we rode.
The hills are alive…….

Linda is standing at the entrance to the abbey.

The cemetery where the Von Trapp family was supposed to be hiding after the performance at the Salzburg Music Festival. The actual filming took place on a Hollywood set because these headstones weren't big enough to hide behind.

This is the fountain where Maria is on her way to the Von Trapp family singing "I have confidence ".

This was the front of the Von Trapp home. It's now owned by a university used as a residence for serious music students. Our guide, Celeste a cellist, lived here.

Another view of St Peter's cemetery. The left side is built into the cliff. Actually many of the bldgs are built into the base of the cliff. Gravesites here are rented for 10 years & familes are required to tend them. If the rent isn't paid, the site is emptied & someone else moves in!

The gazebo! It was donated to the city and moved to this location. It isn't open due to someone injuring themselves dancing around trying some of the moves Liesl & Rolf used.

The fountain in front of Mirabell Palace where the kids are singing "Do Re Mi".
The Palace was built in 1606 & turned into a public garden in 1856. These places are really old!

Looking out through Mirabell Garden. In the distance is Hohensalzburg Fortress, the landmark of Salzburg dating back to 1077. These are the steps where the kids are stepping to do re mi.
