Zell am See
Zell am See is a town of about 90,000, on Lake Zell south of Salzburg. Trails & lifts lead to ski slopes on Schmittenhohe mountain. There are 250 miles of ski runs accessed by 121 cable cars & lifts! The town was founded by monks in the 8th century. Construction of the railroad in 1875 opened the area to development and tourism.

That's where we are hiking today!!! Schmittenhohe Cafe & Berghotel (mountain hotel).

Linda's finding our trail up. Getting better at reading those yellow signs!

Stopping for a break at Ebenbergalm. Great view looking down at Lake Zell.

Lots of wildflowers blooming!

Still going up. Weather is gorgeous!!

Nearing the top of the mountain we arrived just in time to see paragliders. We watched some tandems takeoff. Getting started looked hard, running downhill!

After 4 1/2 hrs, about 7 miles & a 4000 ft elevation gain….whewww. Lunch is awaiting us at the Schmittenhohe "mountain hut".

We happily took the cable car back down the mountain!!!!

We watched a musical water light show from a park along the lake. Fun send off from Zell am See!
