Bad Gastein - Part 1 of 2
Bad Gastein is a ski & spa town located in a high valley of the Hohe Tauren mountains. The Gasteiner Waterfall, actually a series of falls, plummets through town to the valley floor. There are 17 thermal springs in the area. The springs were discovered in the 7th century! Villas, hotels and restaurants are built on the steep forested slopes. It's between seasons here. Skiing ended in April and many businesses are just now reopening for summer. All around town people are sprucing things up, painting and planting flowers. It's a picturesque town!

Pension St Leonard, one of many many guest houses in this town. We were on the 3rd floor with a balcony & view of the mountains & the only lift open at his time.

This was the view from our balcony.

Walking down to the Gasteiner Ache (river).
It's really steep!

A zip line to the little red platform on the bottom right.
It ends across the river at the 2nd waterfall.

See the zip line top middle?
Lots of water rushing downhill!

We decided to take the lift up to the top of Stubnerkogel mountain. We heard it was 46 degrees at the top and still some snow covering the trails.

First lookout platform at the top. The info board showed the mountain ranges in the distance & named the peaks.

We found some friends at the top!

This is the restaurant at the top of Stubnerkogel mountain. The building beyond is another lift coming up the backside of the mountain.
