Lake Bled, Slovenia
Lake Bled is a lake in the Julian Alps of northwestern Slovenia near the town of Bled, about 34 miles from Ljubljana. The area is a tourist destination. Lake Bled is what drew us to Slovenia. It's a beautiful area. We enjoyed several sunny days there.

Our email address is gusrox30@gmail.com . Feel free to drop a note and say hello anytime!

Castellum Veldes (castle on the rock) overlooking Lake Bled. The oldest Slovenian castle, built in the early 11th century.

Linda in a pletna (gondola)waiting for our ride to the island on Lake Bled. These boats & their plentnars (oarsmen) have been handed down the generations from the 1500s.

Nearing the island, the Church Of Assumption stands out. The island is a glacial formation created tens of thousands of years ago. The church was built in 1142.

This is our Pletnar oarsman Jacob. He assigned us seats to balance the boat and make steering easier. The boats don't have a keel. The ride was smooth, felt like we were gliding to the island.

The 99 steps up to the Church of Assumption. There are rowboats & paddle boards for rent. There are also small swimming beaches. This lake is fed by underground thermal springs so the water stays around 70 degrees. Very popular!

There were lots of boats out on the lake. We watched the 4 guys in the rowboat load up and try to navigate away from the dock. Seemed like a new experience for them. Hopefully they made it back to the dock!

This is a very nice 3 mile walking path around the lake. The train is available to ride if you want. There are many public beaches, cafes, gelato stands & boat/bike rentals available.

This is a motion activated water station. Drinking water is readily available. The water here is not treated with anything!

Lake Bled is the rowing capital of Slovenia and an Olympic training center.
