Ortisei-St. Ulrich, Italy - Part 2 of 2
Ortisei is a small town of about 5,000 that has embraced tourism. Skiing is popular during winter and hiking, biking and other outdoor activities in the summer. The locals were extremely friendly. Ladin is the official language yet we met folks who spoke English and were proud to share experiences about life in Ortisei and their community.

Looking down from a gondola. The folks are raking hay into rows. They appear to be struggling with balance as the slope is so steep! The truck has to back down the hill to get to the next row.

We walked along a ridge and enjoyed views in every direction!

Meadows of wildflowers!

We rode a chairlift down after lunch at a refugio. Then walked across the valley and up the other side in the distance. That's part of the trail below.

This is a mountain adventure park. It features suspension bridges, a zip line & climbing opportunities thru the
tree canopy.

We did spend a little time walking around town. Lots of flowers, outdoor cafes, shops, accommodations and steep hills. Town is surrounded by mountains,
not much flat!

Wandering thru town our route lead us to an uphill tunnel. There were long steep outdoor covered moving sidewalks & escalators between the tunnels. It is an easier way to access the ski lifts.

A beautiful well tended cemetery. One of the days in town we witnessed a walking funeral procession. Seemed like all the locals attended. We waited awhile for all the folks to pass. A horse drawn carriage carried the casket. It was a beautiful procession.

Linda is trying out the Kniepp cure trail. Water is diverted from the river into this shallow rock lined channel. You walk barefoot to the end & back. The water is very cold. The Kniepp cure promotes better blood circulation which has many healthy benefits.
