Innsbruck, Austria
We're taking a break from the mountains and are in Innsbruck doing some city touring. We strolled around old town seeing the sights and absorbing the history. Everything is old but well kept. It's a typical Austrian city with outdoor cafes, pedestrian areas and lots of bicycles. Old town is thriving, can't imagine what it's like during the busy season, July & August!

Innsbruck is located along the banks of the Inn River, which flows into the Danube at Passau, German.
The river looks to be high and flowing fast.

We went to Bergisel Skijumping Stadium, sight of the 1964 & 1976 Winter Olympics. The hill is at the end of a glacial moraine. The first skijumping competition
was in 1927.

Bergisel was built on the 1927 site, but upgraded to meet the 1964 Olympic competition requirements. The most recent renovation was 2002. It has had several renovations since 1927. Skier preparing to start.

Launching!!!! The jumping speed is 57 mph!

The Golden Roof in Old Town was a balcony built in 1500 by Emperor Maximilian so he could enjoy the view of the square. The square was a site of markets, tournaments and dances.

The Triumphal Arch was built in 1765. One side is to commemorate the wedding of Empress Maria Theresa's son, the other the death of her husband,
Emperor Franz Stephan.

Many parks with fountains & beautiful flower gardens.

This was was a common sight, school kids on a field trip. The teacher was giving the kids maps and
they were listening, obviously not teenagers!

Many many people on bikes with these backpacks. They are delivering takeout food! Again, bikes are heavily used in the Old Town districts of every city we've visited.
