Transportation blog
The majority of our travel has been by train. The trains are timely & efficient, though not always on our schedule! The trains are utilized by both locals & tourists. We're happy not driving and thrilled we don't have much stuff to lug around! Our backpacks are about 10 pounds. We do laundry when we run out of socks & undies. You probably realize our wardrobe is limited!

Our email address is gusrox30@gmail.com . Feel free to drop a note and say hello anytime!

There are all kinds of trains, local, regional, express and international. The times aren't always when we want to go, but the connections are excellent. You definitely need to be ready to get on & off and hustle to the next platform. They don't wait, nice to have small backpacks!

This is a local electric bus. Often we get a free Mobility Guest Card from our lodging that covers local trains & buses for the duration of our stay. Makes it easy to get around & encourages visitors to see places that are too far to walk.

Flixbus is a commercial bus company based in Germany. We rode this bus from Villach, Austria to Ljubljana, Slovenia. It was okay but
we prefer the trains.

This is a local city tourist train that has a route to show you around town. The fees are usually small & they tell you about the history (generally not in English). Many of the towns we've visited
have one in operation.

This is an electric bus that is free within the Ljubljana pedestrian area for folks that have mobility issues. You can call or just wave them down
when you see them.

This is a funicular. It is a cable railway system that is used for very steep slopes. Usually not too long. They have been in use since the late 1800s!!

Bikes in train stations are a common sight. We saw folks using elevators, escalators and stairs with ramps to move between levels.

We've embraced riding lifts up and down the steep slopes, trying to save our knees! Besides cable cars and gondolas we rode a couple chairlifts.

Our main mode of transportation is walking. We haven't worn out our boots yet!
