Roxy and Linda's Summer Vacation in 2022

May 21, 2022 ..... Back to the welcome page and listings for other links

May 21-The Wave is a spectacular rock formation in the Coyote Buttes North area along the UT AZ border. A max of 64 people per day are allowed entry. Permits are issued by lottery, 48-4 months in advance and 16-2 days before. For the 2 days before you need apply with mobile device and be close by. There are lots of rules!!! We applied Thursday & were notified Thursday evening we had a permit for Saturday, couldn't believe it! This is a bucket list item for us, we'd applied once before unsuccessfully. So, today we hiked to the Wave!

Our email address is gusrox30@gmail.com. Feel free to drop a note and say hello anytime!

Near the start of the "permit required" trail. It's 3.2 miles to the Wave from the Wirepass trailhead. Just finished climbing to this plateau. Taking a breather!

Got an early start. Got to see the sun coming up over our climb to the Small Saddle. The trail has 4 markers over the slick rock sections.

Found the 1st marker. Gotta love the traction on this kind of rock. Just don't fall as it's like rough sandpaper.

Beautiful scenery all day! 3 colors of prickly pear blooms. In the background are the Twin Buttes. They are one of the landmarks we looked for to guide us.

The circled area is another siting landmark called the Vertical Crevice. That's where we're heading.
The Wave is just below it.

Crossed through several areas of deep sand..ugh! Had to empty the sand out to give our toes room to move

We found the Wave. Spectacular!!
