Biked
into Manzanita (2.0 miles) from Nehalem Bay SP for a morning mocha &
Diet Coke. |
The
mouth of the Columbia River (this is looking north) has jetties north
& south to create safer shipping channels. The jetties are really
long! |
The
wreck of the Peter Iredale, an English sailing ship that ran around
in 1906. Since 1792 about 2000 ships have sunk around the Columbia River
bar. This area has the rep as the graveyard of the Pacific. |
|
Heading
over the Astoria-Megler bridge to Washington. It's over 4 miles long! |
Took
a short walk along the marina in Ilwaco, WA. Midweek is not the best
time to find shops & restaurants open. We were looking for a dinner
spot, good thing we have provisions in the van! |
At
Cape Disappointment SP, walking along Benson Beach. The North Head Lighthouse
is decommissioned. The facilities have been restored & the Keeper's
private residence is available to rent! |
|
Amazing
shapes! From HUGE trees! |
The
amount of driftwood along the beach was massive! |
Water
was flowing in and out of the rocks. |
|
Roxy
heard something so we crawled over the driftwood to have a look. Wow,
we watched a bunch of sea lions feeding, barking and playing in the
bay. We also watched a bald eagle catch a fish, sorry no photo. |
Incredible
engineering long ago! |
Looking
out to the north & south jetties where the Columbia River meets
the Pacific. |
