We
decided to leave the van in Port Angeles, WA and ride the MV Coho ferry
over to Victoria, BC. |
The
bike race on Sunday was a 1km criterium, a mass start with multiple
loops on a closed course. The loop was around the legislature building
which was constructed in the late 1800's. |
Lots
to see along the waterfront. There is a fish & chip shop that was
popular evidenced by the long walk up line and folks enjoying the outdoor
seats. |
|
We
took a city bus out to Butchart Gardens. Jennie Butchart started the
gardens in 1912 in an exhausted limestone deposit that was a former
cement plant. |
Left
the ferry to see a bike criterium in progress. A 3 day event involving
lots of different categories (like age or gender). |
Lots
of peacocks strutting around Beacon Hill Park. Huge park with lawn bowling,
cricket, soccer play areas. We had a nice day & lots of folks were
enjoying it with us! |
|
The
most bike/pedestrian friendly city we've seen yet! Dedicated bike lanes
everywhere. Note the stoplight, it's for cyclists. |
These
horse drawn trolleys were available around the Legislature buildings.
Beautiful to watch in action. Too cold & wet to go for a ride. |
Breakfast
in the dining room of the B&B. Antiques everywhere! Beautifully
decorated. Hostess was a fabulous cook! And friendly! |
|
A
lush, 55-acre property, They Have five main gardens, many fountains,
sculptures, streams and explodes with wave upon wave of color for much
of the year. |
A
Wisteria tree. Just one of the 100s of flowering trees & shrubs.
Lots of perennials & annuals just starting to bloom. The rose gardens
will be phenomenal in a few weeks! |
That's
our ride back to the USA. Not the little yellow harbor taxis!! |
