June 21, 2022 ..... Back to the welcome page and listings for other links

June 21 - Solstice in Fairbanks. Sunrise was 2:58am and sunset will be 12:49am tonight, actually tomorrow! That's 21 hrs 49 minutes of daylight. It doesn't get dark, love the long days!!!!

Our email address is gusrox30@gmail.com. Feel free to drop a note and say hello anytime!

This is a musk ox at the Large Animal Research Station run by the university. We often walked over on trails from our old house

Rolling a bench over to the fire on a gravel bar along the Chena River. Getting ready for hot dogs & s'mores.

Hiked up the Angel Rocks trail north of Fairbanks. A beautiful sunny day with miles of scenery.
---

Chena Hot Springs is at the end of the road. Was just an enclosed swimming pool with very hot water…it's now a Resort. This is NOT for people.
---

This is one of the many restored buildings at the resort. The sod roof was a very common covering in the early days.
---

This is a '59 Polaris snow mobile. If you can't restore it, you make it a planter??!
---

Roxy grew up across the street from this old dairy farm. The Creamer family donated 2200 acres and it's now a migratory waterfowl refuge. Sandhill cranes, geese, ducks and other birds pass through in spring & fall. There are walking trails & dog mushing trails throughout the refuge. It's a favorite spot!
---

This a section of the 800 mile pipeline that runs from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. It travels over & under ground & rivers.

Historic Chatanika gold dredge #3 near the Steese Highway. Between 1923-1957, 70 million dollars of gold was extracted from the lake. A couple fires have reduced it to a rust bucket.
---

We are on top of Eagle Summit. It's totally above the tree line at 3652 ft. The tree line gets lower as you go north . And the temperature gets cooler. Big snow patches are everywhere & they may melt before winter?
---

We loved the breeze on the summit…it blew away all the mosquitoes! Lots of wild flowers & views forever.

So, this is what the ground keepers in the far north have to deal with. New surprises every year. This seam opened up this spring & is about 8 ft deep & 40 yds long. One of many natural occurrences. This was a golf course 3 years ago. The new owners are trying to get it playable. Job security that's for sure!
