Day 25 - Canyon Creek, MT to Canyon Ferry Lake KOA - 49 miles ... 1002 Total Miles
WOOHOO! 1000 miles! The ride was still a litle downhill with tailwind. Decided to go with Jesse's advice (husband of Justine Smith from the Dobson Ladies League) & stop at McDonalds in Helena for breakfast, wifi & a charging session for our electronic devices. We love the smoothies & oatmeal. We were planning on staying in Helena to enjoy a shorter day & some 4th of July activities, but decided it was too early to stop & the tailwind was calling us. Things were going well, until the shoulder narrowed & the rumble strips tried to break our teeth. At about 40 miles into the ride at Winston, Linda started to feel nauseated. We stopped & drank more water & Gatorade. We then rode the last 7 miles to the KOA where she took a turn for the worse. Long story short, we ended up getting a ride 7 miles to Townsend for a visit to the ER. Blessed that it was big enough to have one! They gave her anti-nausea meds in the saline IV drip. Fixed her right up. Called the KOA host who came to take us back. Enjoyed the rest of the evening watching fireworks. Beautiful end to the day!

Day 26 - Canyon Ferry Lake KOA to Three Forks, MT -
44 miles ...... 1046 Total Miles
Woke up this morning feeling good, so decided to ride the 7 miles to Townsend and reassess. Had some breakfast at the Town Pump convenience store, felt okay, it was early, cloudy and cooler so we headed on. The day cleared, the scenery unfolded with snow capped mountains in the distance. We rode thru huge hay fields and ranches following the Missouri River upstream. The traffic also got heavier as the day progressed and the road shoulder went from wide to non-existant. We stopped for lunch at Montana Wheat just off I-90 where we've stopped many times driving. After lunch we rode 5 miles into Three Forks and found a motel for the night with AC. We walked down to the fairgrounds where there was a roping competition going on. Lots of horses, fun to watch...teams of 2 riders try and rope a steer as quickly as possible. The steers had fake horns, looked like a little bonnet. Three Forks is the headwaters of the Missouri, formed by the confluence of the Jefferson, Gallatin and Madison Rivers.
