Day
33 - Billings, MT to Hysham, MT - 87
miles ......... 1320
total miles
Got an early start as we were on the west side of Billings,
it was Friday morning and we had to ride thru Billings, kind of busy as we got
to the east side and closer to 8 am. After 10
miles we were out of town on a secondary road. The drivers continue to be quite
courteous. The roads continue to roll thru farm country and along the cliffs of
the Yellowstone River. We stopped at Pompey's Pillar National Monument, a historic
landmark along the Yellowstone River. We stopped in the SMALL town of Custer for
lunch. The only choice was a bar, lounge, casino and we were hesitant but hungry!
Ordered lunch and chatted with the women running the place, Sherri. She was great
and so was the food. Sherri grew up in Circle, MT on a ranch. Circle is a very
small place northeast of Custer. She left for Portland when she was 17 and missed
the wide open space of Montana. She wished us well and insisted she pay for our
lunch and stop in to visit Carl at the Hysham Supper Club, bar & casino. We
left a good tip! We found Carl , he was expecting us as Sherri had called ahead.
We chatted while enjoying cold sodas and then found a spot for our tent in the
town park. It will be a good night, we're ready for a snooze.
Day 34
- Hysham, MT to Miles City, MT - 73
miles ........ 1393
total miles
We got an early start, it's easier to do when we're camping,
and road 28 miles to Forsyth to meet up with
Roxy's brothers, Bob and Ron. They both drive professionally and were hoping to
catch us somewhere along the road. Worked out perfect, we all pulled into town
within 5 minutes of each other. The guys though they'd catch us on the road but
we made good time with a slight tailwind. Had a great visit over breakfast and
then head off our separate ways. Bob was driving back to Indiana, Ron to Wyoming
and we found a headwind. Bummer! Part way up a small hill Linda flatted due to
a goat head thorn. As we were changing the tube a couple stopped and asked if
we needed any help, nice offer! Back on the road the wind freshened, the last
bit into Miles City was tough with strong swirly headwinds. Happy to be here tonight.
Great to see Bob and Ron today, they made us feel special.
