Day 47 - Park Rapids, MN to Bemidji, MN - 62 miles ......... 2040 total miles
Hard ride due to huge direct headwind all day and rain in the morning. Headwinds are the most challenging for us, not only do we work harder but it's noisy. Tailwinds are wonderfully quiet! We were wet when stopped for lunch at Douglas Lodge in Itasca State Park. Enjoyed hot wild rice soup and warmed up. The rain let up and we headed out to ride the 6 mile bike path thru the park to the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The bike path was a treat, wound thru forest, along a lakes and across a boardwalk, nice to be out of traffic. There were many people out enjoying the day even though it was cool and cloudy. We didn't walk across the river as we were now dry from our morning shower. Leaving the park we wound along country roads to Bemidji. We were happy to see the lake, Paul Bunyan and Babe. We're staying with Roxy's brother Gary and wife Betty in Bemidji for the weekend. We didn't want to miss dinner so we called for a ride. Gary and Bob we there in a flash to pick us up. Nice to sit on something other than the bike seat. Had a great home cooked dinner and visit with more family. Life is good!

We're in Itasca State Park. After lunch we found the 6 mile bike path to the headwaters of the Mississippi River. What a change from the last week!

Linda trying to beat the ranger uphill.....guess what?

This boardwalk extended over marshy ground. The surrounding area is very lush & vibrant with birds.

It is over 1/2 mile long thru beautiful forest.

Unknown young man posing at the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Hard to get a picture without people. Hard to believe this trickle turns into the mighty Mississippi!

Funny thinking this was going to be a quiet people-free experience :):) !!!
Many folks out walking across the headwaters of the Mississippi.
