Day 48 & 49 - Bemidji, MN - rest days
Spent the weekend connecting with more of the Port clan in Bemidji, Roxy's brother Gary, wife Betty and their kids, grandkids and great-grandkid. Fun to meet and visit with everyone. We toured around the area, watched a sawmill in action, cruised on the Mississippi and ate, and ate, and ate! Roxy's brother Bob joined us again, he loves to drive. Great couple of days off the bikes!

Day 50 - Bemidji, MN to Pine River, MN -
73 miles .............. 2113 total miles
Gary & Betty dropped us off at the start of the Paul Bunyan bicycle trail in Bemidji. What a great day of riding! The Paul Bunyan trail is a 110 mile paved, off road multi use recreational rail trail from Bemidji to Brainerd, MN. Wow! Asphalt surface was wonderful with no traffic. We rolled thru forests, farms, meadows, small towns and along lots of lakes. In Walker, we met the Turners from Bemidji, 2 teachers and their 16 year old son, training for a ride to the Twin Cities and thinking of a cross country ride next summer. On the way into Pine River we met a gentleman training for a 1600 mile ride in September around Lake Superior. Cyclists are everywhere! Our motel tonight is just across the road from the trail, won't have far to go in the morning!

This trail is very fun! 72 miles, so far, of off road paved bike path. This section was quite
hilly with short climbs & descents. Lots of winding thru the woods.
Did we have fun, or what?

An old-fashioned soda & ice cream bar in Hackensack. How can this possibly be passed by?
We owe it to the dairy farmers of America to patronize every one of these wonderful shops!
We're quite willing to participate...
