Day 57 - White Bear, MN to New Richmond, WI - 37 miles ...... 2347 total miles
Waited for a little rain shower to pass before we headed out from Mom's. It's always hard to start off in the rain when you're nice and dry! Said goodbye and peddled off towards Stillwater. Good to be back on the road again. In Stillwater we decided to find a bike shop and ask for advice about routes across Wisconsin. Stillwater has some really steep hills in town, we walked up a couple and down one! We found a great bike shop that also was a restaurant. We had lunch and chatted about routes, nothing like local knowledge. After lunch we crossed over the St. Croix River into Wisconsin, a new state! We decided to stop in New Richmond for the night since there were few services east for many miles. Here in Wisconsin many of the county roads are paved due to the dairy and agriculture industries. So many roads to choose from, we had a chance to look over the maps and plot a route.

Day 58 - New Richmond, WI - Cornell, WI -
78 miles ...... 2424 total miles
Started the day wondering what our first whole day riding in Wisconsin would bring? Rode thru lots of beautiful farmland, every direction we saw barns, silos, dairy farms and crops. The terrain was rolling, short little up and downs. Overall the traffic was light and good shoulder on the road. As we figured there were few services along the way, gave us a chance to eat some of the snacks we've been carrying! We stopped for the evening in the town of Cornell and had something to eat at Dylan's Dairy, a restaurant, cheese and ice cream. The shop is a tribute to Dylan who died at a young age of 16 from leukemia. He was given 2 dairy cows thru Make a Wish Foundation because he wanted something that would last forever. His herd had grown to 30 and his Mom opened Dylan's Dairy as a remembrance to keep his wish. Touching story and great food and ice cream. We're camping tonight at Brunet Island State Park along the Chippewa River. Great day!

Another state complete! Our route thru Minnesota was really fun to ride.
The Paul Bunyan Bike Trail was a hit!

Oh yeah, new territory. We have no idea where we will be tonight. We aren't using the
Adventure Cycling map, so are relying on the WI bike map sent to us by Karen (Gus's sis).
Always good to have some unknowns in our life. ))::

Found this on a little side trip, turned left instead of right....you never know what is over
the next hill. This is on display outside the Wisconsin Air Nat'l Guard building.

--

No, we didn't turn south. This is not in Kansas.

--

We saw dairy farms everywhere. As we looked out over the landscape, we spotted silos
& barn roofs. In Minnesota we were trying to find water towers.
--

This is the wall dedicated to Dylan. It's a heartwarming story. His family & friends
are keeping the restaurant open in his memory.

Wayside rest stop along hwy 64, good spot for a break.

Camping out again in Brunet Island State Park, it's been awhile.
