Day
71 - Port Dover, ON to Port Colborne, ON - 60
miles ..... 3206
total miles
The ride out of Port Dover was very quiet this morning, everyone
must have headed home. We learned there was an Art in the Park Festival on the
weekend that brought a larger than normal crowd to town. Early in the day we passed
a large steel plant and power station. We also passed many windmills and signs
saying NO windmills. We rode along Lake Erie for many miles along quiet back roads
lined with a mix of farmland, forest and homes. Enjoyed the scenery and the quiet
roads. Tonight we're staying at a B&B in Port Colborne. We walked into town
to check out the Welland Canal, which is a shipping channel connecting Lakes Erie
and Ontario, bypassing Niagara Falls.
Day
72 - Port Colborne, ON to Niagara Falls, ON - 39
miles ..... 3245
total miles
Today's ride was mostly all on multi use paths. We rode on
the Friendship trail 20 miles from Port Colborne to Fort Erie. Lots of people
were out enjoying the beautiful morning walking, biking, skating and walking their
dogs. After riding thru forest we came back to Lake Erie and could look across
to Buffalo, NY and the Peace Bridge across the Niagara River. Our ride continued
along the river following the Niagara Recreation trail. The riding was pleasant,
no traffic and a few cyclists and walkers. Closer to the falls the trail goes
right along the river, we could see the mist from the falls in the distance and
also the crowds of people. We walked our bikes thru the crowds to our motel and
relaxed a bit before heading out to be tourists. We watched an IMAX movie, had
dinner outdoors overlooking the falls, took photos of the falls, went to the casino
and had a view from the Skylon Tower. That's a lot of tourist stuff for us!
