Day 79 - Ticonderoga, NY to Rochester, VT - 45 miles ........ 3690 total miles
A new state today! We left Ticonderoga and took a ferry across Lake Champlain to Vermont. Vermont greeted us with hills, steep hills! The day was humid and sweat was dripping off us. The scenery was beautiful. We rode thru Middlebury and had lunch at a bakery cafe. Tasty! After lunch we started climbing Middlebury gap, some of the sections were really steep. We gave our granny gears quite a workout. At the summit there was a road sign indicating a steep 12% downhill, wheeeeee......no pedaling required! Our first stop in Rochester was the Green Mountain Bike Shop. We had a rear tire replaced and the drive trains cleaned and lubed. Great service! Tonight we're staying at the Pumpkin Patch B&B, nicely renovated home built in 1873. Enjoyed chatting with owners Debbie & Rich, nice folks.

We rode past Fort Ticonderoga on our way to the ferry.

Linda is hailing the ferry. Costs $2 to cross one way with a bicycle.
--

Walking on the ferry to cross Lake Champlain to Vermont, we were the only passengers!

Another new state! Can't remember how many we've gone thru, but know there are only 2 left!

This Vermont route is very pretty. Kind of overcast & very humid, but no rain yet.
--

Middlebury is very picturesque. Great lunch stop before heading up the Middlebury Gap.
--

The Middlebury River was flowing downhill along the road for miles.
--

Pretty flowers on the railing of a bridge, with the Middlebury River in the background.
--

Mountain campus of the Middlebury College. Every building we saw had the same color scheme.
--

We just summited the Middlebury Gap. The downhill is going to be great!

--

Rest break @ Ripton country store. It's fun to stop at these small places and
enjoy a cold drink and ice cream.
